Walter Dünnner

Mr. Walter Dünner the founder, whose Company is named after, is a pioneer from the beginning history of automatic latches. Born on the 31st December 1897, he grew up in a modest surrounding in Moutier.

In the year 1913, he began his apprentiship as a mechanic – setter at Jos.Pétermann SA. In the year 1916, he successfully  completed his examinations and began his studies is new field of mechanic in automotive. During these years, he continues to be with Jos. Pétermann SA.  The year 1921 is the time when he received his final appentiships’ certificates.

1925

Walter Dünner entered the research department at Jos. Petermann SA., where he was responsible in the calculations for the production of cams. He carrry out the adjustments and provided the complete tooling for the clients. During this period, he travelled across Europe to instruct in repairations and service methods to ensure the smooth running of many machines. During his leisure,he was interested in electrical and manufacture of Radio.

1933

He obtained the managerial certificate in in the field of radio electrical with a license to practice. In the short time thereafter, he decided to leave the field and started to concentrate exclusively in automatic lathes. Immediately, he came to realise the accute shortage of tooling for the clients and in the beginning of 1933, he started to manufacture cams. His father quit the watch industry without hesitation to help serving the birth of clients and became the first workman of Walter Dünner. Walter Dünner began to manufacture Guide Bush in cast iron, and thereafter in steel diamant. The considerable improvements made in lifespan of the Guide Bush brought rapid success and thus made it necessarry to enlarge the Production facilities. In the year 1938, the first Guide Bush in Carbide was made for Europe and in 1946 for the USA. He supersedes WIDIA, who attempted to register a Patent, but had to abandon the move because Walter Dünner had already registered its invention with concrete evidence.

1935

The status of a Limited Companys’ was obtained for Walter Dünner SA. and the quality of the product began to be recognized easily. New products has been developed and introduced continually ever since.

1948 Albert Dünnner

Albert Dünner, the son of Walter started his career in the Company and developed the first split-slanted Guide Bush. Thereafter other diversified models (helicoid, half-moon, etc.). After a detailed and thorough research he registers a patent application to Protect his invention on slanted slots Guide Bush. This particular split-slanted Models are still being widely used in manufacturing hexagonal or profile materials, as it reduces the  undroundness errors of centerless grinding. Another strong point of this model is its large slots which allows for maximum cooling and improves the outcome for all machining of stainless materials.

1961

Walter Dünner SA made significant structural changes, thus Albert Dünner begin to concentrate 100% in the production. Soon, he mordernise the machines and enlarged the factory  space up to 75%.

1971

An automatic lathe Company approached Albert Dünner with a proposal to develop a new product: High precision Guide Bush with a tolerance of 5 microns maximum concentricity at a distance of 50mm. Albert Dünner solve the problem successfully and with this guide bush the company BMW could save on material grinding.

1975

Albert Dünner take over of the complete direction of the Company.
After making improvement on service for its clients, on the year 1980, Walter Dünner produced its first product which was not in the production namely brazing tools.

1981 Daniel Dünner

Daniel Dünner, the son of Albert, joins the family enterprise to support his father.
A good collaboration and the precious exprience made it possible for a continuous products development for Walter Dünner SA.

1985

Walter Dünner SA diversified to produce a revolutionary clarinet mouthpiece which permits the stepless adjustment of the reed.

1990

The sales of cutting tools increased very rapidly as the latest new DINOX achieved an enormous success in the market.

1991

The SURF Guide Bush appears in the market. The latest proves to be a solution to the problems for turning steel parts and from this onward, turning parts for stainless steel, and the same is being effectively in use until today.

1992

Walter Dünner SA offers profile service for cutting tool inserts specialized for threading on stainless material.  Cam beaks were added to the Walter Dünner articles range, as well as carbide collets with coating (that replaces the traditional cones on the carbide). The success of these collets proves to be important as the coating avoids wearing out of the collet sleeve and avoids jamming.

1993

Albert Dünner again pass on the direction of the company to his son Daniel; A. Dünner remains still active in giving services and technical advice to the clients. As always, Walter Dünner SA continues to improve the service to its clients. Walter Dünner SA  introduces lapping for stainless steels. This lapping improved the performance of traditional Guide Bush, and  consequently increased the efficiency of the automatic Lathe. Recently toggles also atered into the products range of WALTER DÜNNER SA, all of these articles being of course of high quality ! In the same year began the research and trials in the ceramic field. These researchs will end in a new brand of guide bush : CERTECH

1995

The rotating guide bush, basically developped for foreigh customers, is definitively finished and available at sales. our 2 years long trials in the ceramic field will allow us an industrial production of the guide bush CERTECH for 1996.
